Generously juicy apple and white peach aromas, suffused with cooling green herbal essences, dominate an expansive, polished, buoyant midpalate. The stony dimension here, as befits high-active-lime soils (or so many growers would maintain), is coupled with an almost electric sense of finishing energy and invigorating ping. The fruit offers refreshment of a sort one can scarcely take for granted in the Grosses Gewächs genre, and is utterly transparent to a near-kaleidoscopic interplay of pungently herbal, piquantly nutty, incisively peppery and elusively stony elements. Maritime salinity hyperactivates the salivary glands to set a mouthwatering seal on the entire proceedings, but not one that keeps you from greedily taking the next sip.

The 2014 Burgberg Riesling trocken GG displays super and partly overripe, quite opulent fruit on the nose. On the palate, this is intense and concentrated, dense and very juicy Riesling with highly ripe Riesling flavors. Very round and elegant.
Acerbic nose, very bitter and tight. Pretty challenging to drink – very angular and skinny – although the concentration of fruit is impressive. (RH)
