Clover and grasses, mint and bergamot, lime and pineapple on the nose all anticipate the luscious fruitiness and cooling herbal suffusion delivered on a delicate palate. This finishes with ample refreshment and fine flavor interplay if rather obvious youthful sweetness. (Revisiting the 2012 alongside serves as a vivid and delectable example of just how terrific this bottling can be.)

From very pebbly loess soils, the 2014 Riesling Kabinett Kreuznacher Krötenpfuhl opens with a very clear and flinty bouquet of white fruits. Round and piquant on the palate, this is a light and lovely, juicy and spicy Riesling with a nice purity, but also a sensual sweetness that is just perfectly intertwined with the stony salinity of this quaffable Riesling.
Loam and quartzite soils, RS 41 g/l. Prettily scented – stony citrus and very slightly floral but becoming more spicy with air. Delicate harmony of sweetness and crisp acidity, treading a fine line but doing it well. (JH)
