I ordered the 2023 Hereafter Here after spotting it on my hotel wine list in Stellenbosch. It is drinking beautifully, with scents of honeysuckle, linden and a subtle oily aroma in the background. The palate is beautifully balanced, with real weight and density, though it is really the texture that wins you over. Grapefruit and kumquat notes furnish the finish. Lovely.

Young vines (5–35 years old). Spontaneous fermentation in eggs and a mix of old oak. Much more smoky and reduced on the nose than the 2022. Much more contained within tramlines of tense acidity and iron-clenched savoury notes. Bread and bee pollen and saffron and cooked rice. I'd hold this back for a couple of years at least. (TC)
The 2023 Hereafter Here has a disarmingly pure bouquet with yellow plum, candle wax and just a touch of crushed stone, all exquisitely defined and focused. The palate is very well balanced with a line of electricity that goes from start to finish. Vivid flavors unfurl in the mouth, with hints of grapefruit peel and a liberal splash of stem ginger toward the finish. This is an outstanding Hereafter Here (see Producer Commentary for background details).
Fresh and aromatic, showing jasmine, green tea, sliced apples and pears on the nose. It’s medium-bodied, bright and pristine. Hard to resist. From young chenin blanc vines. Drink or hold.
