Embossed bottle à la Châteauneuf weighs only 1,230 g. 40% Mourvèdre, 35% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 5% Counoise with cuttings originally from Beaucastel. All estate fruit grown 12 miles from the Pacific. The blocks were individually hand-harvested in multiple passes for optimum ripeness. The grapes were fermented using native yeasts in a mixture of 6,800-litre wooden upright fermenters, open-top tanks and closed stainless-steel tanks. After pressing, the wines were moved to barrel and allowed to complete malolactic conversion. The team selected the vintage's best lots and blended them to make this wine in May 2018. The wines were then aged in 5,500-litre French oak foudres for another year before the wine was bottled in July 2019. Transparent garnet. Really rich undertow and some jewelly fruit with real brightness. Quite exciting and lively for the age of this wine with real persistence. Good stuff. It will be interesting to contrast it with the Perrin Family Gigondas 2018 I am about to taste… It certainly leaves the palate energised. Physical jerks next. (JR)

Brilliant violet. Ripe red/blue fruits, potpourri, incense and baking spices on the deeply perfumed, expansive nose. Coats the palate with sweet boysenberry, black raspberry and floral pastille flavors sharpened by building mineral and white pepper flourishes. Shows the richness of the vintage but comes off lively and delivers strong floral thrust on an extremely long, gently tannic finish.

The 2017 Esprit de Tablas is a blend of 40% Mourvèdre, 35% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 5% Counoise. Pale to medium ruby, it has pretty aromas of tangerines, blueberries, tea leaves, tar and forest floor with loads of floral perfume. Medium-bodied, it's concentrated and layered but delicately framed, and it finishes long with just enough freshness. 4,090 cases produced.

The 2017 Esprit De Tablas checks in as 40% Mourvèdre, 35% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 5% Counoise. Medium ruby/plum-colored, with notes of blackberries, smoked meats, spring flowers, and orange blossom, it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, an elegant, rounded textured, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It shows the more elegant style of this estate nicely and can be drunk today or cellared for 10-15 years, if you're so inclined.
