The 2016 Riesling trocken Schlehdorn Unikat is clear and coolish on the nose, with bright, precise and finely spicy fruit aromas. Linear and lush, this is a very elegant, refined and saline Schlehdorn with a quite phenolic finish. But it doesn't yet have the richness and power of 2013 or 2015. This is still young but definitely different than all the other vintages before. It is more austere and focused in the structure. 13% stated alcohol. Tasted from magnum at the domaine in August 2022.

There is both a stronger evocation of ripe fruits than usual for a dry Kühn bottling, and a whiff of oak. Purple plum and white peach are piquantly pit-inflected and mingle with pungent peat. The mouthfeel is waxy and oily, and the midpalate projects formidable concentration. There isn’t the clarity, lift, nuance or vibrancy here of the corresponding Landgeflecht. But there is an impressive sense of dark, smoky, stony depth underlying the fruit, and a finish of formidable sheer persistence and almost rumbling resonance. Give this time.
