2023 Gigondas Cuvee Ventabren

The perfumed 2023 Gigondas La Cuvée Ventabren expresses lifting rosewater, orange blossom, just-ripe raspberry, dried herbs and touches of licorice. Full-bodied, concentrated and refreshing, the 2023 showcases polish and class, balancing spot-on freshness and depth before winding down with clarity and sharp drive.

Introverted and reserved, the 2023 Gigondas Ventabren opens with aromas of pepper, spices and earthy notes. Medium- to full-bodied, structured and dense, it’s firm and robust, concluding with a peppery finish. Rather austere in profile, it remains balanced and well-executed. This is a blend of 70% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah and 10% Cinsault.

70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Cinsault. Whole-bunch fermentation. Aged for 18 months in foudres. Certified organic (AB Agriculture Biologique). Cask sample. Tasted blind. Crushed red fruits, raspberry, and a herbal note. A silky, smooth attack with such delicate tannins. The fruit core is brimming with energy and purity and has a herbal streak through the middle. A cedary note comes through on the fresh, fine and refined finish. (AC)
