The only problem with the 2014 Terroir Series Malbec Finca Ambrosía is that I tasted the cooler 2013 next to it. Otherwise, it's a perfect example of what Gualtallary is about and why it's in the minds of many as the place to produce fresh and mineral Malbec. The élevage is not noticeable in the wine, and it's the same for the whole series and all vintages; what comes through are differences provided by the terror and the vintage conditions. 2014 was a cool year but slightly warmer and riper than 2013.

(15% alcohol; from 18-year-old vines): Bright medium ruby. Black fruit and licorice aromas are lifted by sexy oak spices and pungent minerality. Suave and fine-grained, conveying terrific mineral lift and a light touch to its red and black fruit and violet flavors. This sharply delineated wine expands dramatically on the slightly inky finish, which features serious savory tannins and an element of graphite minerality. This is my favorite of the Terroir Series bottlings today in terms of style and definition and should get even better as the vines gain in age.
