Deep ruby. Very sexy, highly expressive red and blue fruit and incense aromas and a floral element that emerges as the wine opens up. Juicy and seamless in texture, offering palate-staining boysenberry and black raspberry flavors and a touch of vanilla. Finishes very long and sweet, with smooth, even tannins sneaking in late. I expect that this wine will reward at least a decade of patience.

The 2014 Morgon Côte du Py has an attractive bouquet with blackberry, blueberry and redcurrant fruit, nicely defined, although for the first 10-15 minutes there is a metallic tincture that obstructs the fruit. The palate is balanced with firm tannin, the acidity quite sharp in the mouth and this lends a little bitterness that does not gel with the sweet cherry fruit. I am looking for a little more class and sophistication from what is arguably Beaujolais' most propitious vineyard. It's perfectly enjoyable but I hope that future vintages show more ambition.
Darkish crimson but transparent. Sweetness of oak on the nose. Tight, juicy, firm and finely textured. Beautifully balanced and persistent. (JH)
