"This is the most classic Rheingau Riesling in our portfolio," said Stefan Doktor about the 2018 Schloss Johannisberger Riesling Trocken Bronzelack, which is sourced in the steep and coolish, southwest/west-facing Nonnenhöhe. Vinified in stainless steel (two-thirds) and large oak vats (one-third) and bottled with 5.9 grams of residual sugar, the wine opens with a clear, ripe and elegant, well-concentrated and slightly flinty bouquet. The palate is lush but also firm and piquant, and the finish is persistently compact and mineral, with lingering mineral freshness and phenolic grip. An excellent dry Riesling at 12.5% alcohol. Tasted from AP no. 5 19 in August 2019.

From the coolest part of a vineyard site that faces west and southwest facing site. It has an exotic, yellow-peach and mango nose with hints of grapefruit, too. The palate has a very taut, very fresh and lively feel with a smooth delivery of dense flavors. Healthy skins have an influence here â around 20% skin contact. Superb. Drink or hold.
