Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2020-2036, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Feb 2020

The 2016 Jaspis Spätburgunder Bürgin is from 50+-year-old vines (Alte Reben) and displays a dark yet clear and elegant cherry color. The nose is terribly deep and intensely fruity yet elegant and coolish, with dark and juicy meat, dark chocolate, berry and minty notes. Silky, refined and fresh on the palate, this is a full-bodied, pure, tight and rather lean yet intense, vivacious and tensioned Pinot with much less generosity, flesh and texture than the 2018 Pinot Noirs and, perhaps, a certain lack of mid-palate at this stage. However, the Bürgin is an expressive and authentic Pinot for a vintage that was initially very rainy and then finally incredibly sunny. There is great energy and tension on the aftertaste, which still remains closed but will sing in a few years. 12.5% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from L 30 18 in September 2021.

The 2016 Pinot Noir Jaspis is reductive on the nose, pure, intense and fleshy, with concentration and blood. On the palate, this is a firm, fresh and structured Pinot with flesh and concentration. It's still leathery but straightforward and reveals remarkable finesse and tension. This is a gorgeous, very promising Pinot that you should keep for at least 4 or 5 years.

Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2020-2032, Jancis Robinson MW, Apr 2019

Hand-harvested, spontaneous fermentation, unfiltered. 24 months in large oak (20% new). RS 0.6 g/l, TA 6.0 g/l. Deep crimson. Very heady and true on the nose. Intense. Polished but very present tannins. Real power! Very intense and clearly using a fine wine with Chambertin in its name as its model. Bright cherry fruit with a beginning, middle and (very persistent) end. Clearly extremely ambitious but more approachable than some of its stablemates. (JR)
