2003 Chateau Amelisse

This wine, the same at Ch St Ayme, made by Denis Durantou was pretty impressive for its sap and confidence at first but the finish is awfully dry. Lots of tannin and no obvious sweetness. Quite stern with a hole towards the end of the palate. Chewy and slightly hollow though there is certainly density here. Maybe slightly too much new oak for such battered fruit? (JR)
