Rose, peony, litchi, and brown spices in the nose of Weinbach’s 2007 Gewurztraminer Cuvee Laurence migrate to an oily, honeyed palate that accents the sense of liquid floral perfume but doesn’t reveal the mineral interest that accrued to both the corresponding Cuvee Theo and Reserve Personnelle. Faint heat is once again barely disturbing especially in the context of such enveloping richness as the finish displays. This should stand up to at least a decade in bottle, though I’m finding myself reluctant to speculate beyond that. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage – especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand – and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s. Good bright yellow. Very fresh, vibrant nose offers sappy yellow fruits, rose petal and spices. Sweet and concentrated but still tightly wound, with excellent acidity framing and enlivening the densely packed citrus, quince and floral flavors. Admirable precise gewurztraminer. Finishes long, tactile and bracing, with very fresh acidity and a positive dusty quality without any bitterness.
