2017 Sancerre Les Chasseignes

From a rather coolish, east/southeast-facing vineyard on calcareous gravels and from 17- to 45-year-old vines, the oak-fermented 2017 Sancerre Les Chasseignes needs a little while top open up, get some breath and dive deeper into the details. The nose is clear, ripe and a complex, initially with autolysis notes, then very fine flinty and later aromatic physalis and peach aromas that come out better and finer from a big (Burgundy) glass and intermix with some floral notes. Very elegant. It is full-bodied, lean, intense, even juicy and later even round on the palate, yet with a linear and elegant course. This is a dense, complex, refined and tensioned Sancerre with a long, intense and structured finish with tannic grip and salt. Tasted in January 2021.
