Marked by sappy, resiny notes of oak (this cuvée spends 20-22 months in barrel, half of them new), the 2016 Cote Rotie Champin le Seigneur also boasts hints of baking spices and cedar. There's a bit of raspberry and olive fruit, but this open-knit offering is undeniably on the woody side.

Opaque ruby. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes candied blue fruits, pungent flowers, spicecake and baking spices. Sweet and precise on the palate, offering intense blueberry, cassis and violet pastille flavors braced by a core of juicy acidity. Smoothly blends power and finesse and finishes impressively long and spicy, with harmonious tannins adding framework and gentle grip.
Attractive graphite and fragrance with 5% viognier, this is a blend of 11 different parcels, mainly to the north on the schist. The nose has a super savory, wet gravel and dry-roasted spice feel with succulent and fresh, red-fruit flavors. Elegant and crisp. Drink or hold.
Deep brilliant ruby. Spice-tinged aromas of black currant, cherry liqueur and candied violet are lifted by a smoky mineral quality. Nicely concentrated and focused in the mouth, offering bitter cherry, dark berry and salty olive flavor that turn sweeter on the back half. Shows excellent clarity and spicy cut on the clinging finish, which is framed by smooth, harmonious tannins.
