Punteggio 94/100 · Da bere 2026-2036, Josh Raynolds, Dec 2022

Deep ruby. An expansive bouquet evokes ripe black and blue fruit, floral and spice qualities, along with smoky mineral and botanical herb nuances. Sweet and seamless in texture, offering intense cherry-cola, blueberry and violet pastille flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Supple, fine-grained tannins build steadily on an impressively long, focused finish that echoes the floral and mineral notes. The average age of these vines is approaching 75 years now.

Lots of black and blue fruits, rare steak, spring flowers, and ground pepper all define the 2019 Saint Joseph L'Olivaie, and this beauty is medium to full-bodied, with a layered, gorgeous texture, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It's another brilliant Saint-Joseph from this estate that's going to benefit from just 3-5 years of bottle age and shine for over a decade.

Cedar accents cherry-vanilla aromas in the 2019 Saint Joseph l'Olivaie. Adding notes of blackberry and licorice, this is full-bodied, plush and expansive on the palate, with a long, velvety finish. While some may object to the overt barrel influence, this is a hedonistic red for drinking over the next decade or so, with potential for further improvement over the years. Tasted twice (once blind), with consistent notes.

100% Syrah. Aged for 15 months in barrels (15% new oak). Barrel sample. Tasted blind. Floral-tinged nose. Good zippy freshness and rounded tannins, a leather streak through the wine and a chewy texture on the rich finish. (AC)
