Note di degustazione
The 2005 Malbec Nicasia Vineyard spent 18 months in 100% new French oak. Opaque purple-colored, it displays an expressive perfume of wood smoke, mineral, scorched earth, allspice, black cherry, and blackberry. On the palate it is full-bodied with gobs of savory fruit, a smooth texture, sweet flavors, and superb depth. It will evolve for 5-7 years and offer prime drinking from 2013 to 2027. The Catena Zapata portfolio is stunning from entry-level to top-of-the-line. As an aside, during my visit to Catena-Zapata in April, 2008, I tasted many barrel samples of 2006s and 2007s. The components, particularly of the 2006s are astounding; the best is yet to come. Importer: Billington Imports, Springfield, VA; tel. (703) 455-4700; fax (703) 455-0450; www.billingtonwines.com

The 2005 Malbec Nicasia Vineyard from Paraje Altamira includes 5% Cabernet Franc. It reveals aromas of dried black fruit, lavender and black tea. Complex and intense, it features a chalky texture and a refined expression of herbs. The palate is long and complete, with subtle hints of oak. This has evolved into a nuanced character while still showcasing its ripe origins.
