Saturated ruby. High-pitched, spice-laced red and dark berry scents expand with air, picking up notes of smoky minerals and cured tobacco. Stains the palate with intense, sharply delineated black raspberry and violet pastille flavors. Fine-grained tannins build slowly on the long, floral finish, adding gentle grip. There's lots going on here already but this wine deserves at least another five years of patience.

There’s roughly 500 cases of the 2012 Côte Rôtie Domaine des Pierrelles, and it comes from the mostly granite soils as opposed to schist. Elegant, seamless and medium to full-bodied, with sweet tannin, it exhibits impressive notes of crushed rock, ground herbs, olive and spiced fruits. While it will dish out plenty of enjoyment now, it has the balance and concentration to evolve for 10-15 years.
Inky ruby. High-pitched, focused aromas of redcurrant and cherry, with complicating notes of violet, spicecake and smoky minerals. Taut and energetic in the mouth, with vibrant red and dark berry flavors and a sexy floral pastille nuance. Silky, slow-building tannins give shape to the spicy, penetrating, very long finish. A distinctly elegant, old-school expression of Cote-Rotie; I'll bet this wine will be delicious soon after release.
