The neon-yellow colored 2023 Saar Riesling is clear, precise and finely flinty on the remarkably intense and characterful nose. Round and lush, with fine and mineral acidity, this is a medium-bodied, quite intense and elegant Riesling with a dense, intense and saline finish. It has good length. 12% stated alcohol. Screw-cap closure. Tasted in September 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Saar uses only Saar fruit from vines at least 30 years old, grown on steep slate. Slate crackles on the nose with saltiness and verve. The palate is just as stony, exquisitely taut yet smooth with gentle yeast and fruit on its slender body. Lovely concentration pushes that sense of stone and citrus, really clear-cut and so appetizing.
Cask sample.Quite aggressively ‘iron’ nose – like smelling cold iron and tasting a compote of it! Extremely uncompromising. And certainly not feather-light – compare and contrast with Zilliken! Quite a bit to chew on. Sudden finish. (JR)
