AP number 05 24. Already-complex aroma: smoky, bright citrus and lightly floral. Both pretty and intense at the same time, though the intensity takes the lead after the initial impression. Power through the core but softened by the roundness on the palate. Persistent. (JH)

The 2023 Riesling Hatzenporter Kirchberg Grosses Gewächs hails from red, sandy slate. Lovely smoke wraps itself around red apple fruit and an enticing, almost visceral earthiness. The palate is taut and has superb texture, much clarity and drive alongside a dried orange peel pithiness. Beautiful earthy stoniness trumps the red apple and citrus notions in the end. (Dry)
Very cool and flinty, with the richness that’s typical of this terroir present in a restrained form. Even though the front and middle of the medium-bodied palate are compact, this is pretty sleek in the long finish. From organically grown grapes with Fair\'n Green certification. This is still very young. Needs some time to give its best, but excellent potential. Best after 2025.
