Note di degustazione
Dönnhoff's 2016 Nahe Weissburgunder – S – has an intense and concentrated bouquet with fine yeast and discreet oak flavors. Very elegant, fresh and vital on the palate, this is a tight, densely woven, beautifully mineral and persistently structured Pinot Blanc fermented in new stück vats. The finish is tensioned, tight, pretty long and fresh. The 2016 is still young but full of energy and vitality and is already enjoyable. An excellent and promising Pinot Blanc.

This was fermented and raised in a new 2,000-liter cask that will subsequently be rotated into the far larger production of “regular” Dönnhoff Pinot Blanc, and eventually into that of Riesling, beginning of course with the dry generic bottling. A resinous and lanolin-like overtone of oak fortunately doesn’t shut out varietally-typical scents and flavors of apple, almond and corn shoot, and the finish retains satisfying juiciness. “Step by step, this will come out from under its new wood,” suggested Dönnhoff. Color me skeptical, but I’ll be happy if the wine eventually contradicts me.
