Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate needs a little coaxing to reveal slowly emerging scents of wild blueberries, blackcurrant cordial and warm black plums with touches of sandal wood, allspice, pencil shavings and fragrant earth. The full-bodied palate is decadently fruited with impactful black and blue fruit layers, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and savory.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is dense and quite powerful in the glass, with the big, grainy tannins that are typical of this Calistoga site. A brooding wine, the 2016 Estate is going to need time to fully come together. I have seen that happen in the past, and am confident it will happen here, too.
