Very low-volume vintage due to poor fruit set. Toffee, matchstick, almond, apple fruit that has a dried-out quality but is by no means defunct. Creamy and yogurty, rounded and generous with plenty of fruit to balance the sulphidic note. Going strong, but to drink soon. (RH)

While it's mostly closed at this stage, there is a return to that almond meal/oatmeal/white peach form I see the Toldpuddle vineyard in possession of. This 2015 Chardonnay is streamlined and tense, with a luxuriant array of stone fruits and plentiful, briny acidity. The phenolics in this wine (and this is the first time I have mentioned phenolics in the lineup starting oldest to youngest), have a polish and gloss to them, but they have a little bit of chew and bounce, which I love. Almost glassy in its expression, this is pure, gorgeous, scintillating Tasmanian wine.
Perfect vintage. Lovely balance. Richer than the precedents and even with a little toastiness – which is welcome in a wine with this much acidity. Very clean and pure. Lovely now. (JR)
