Note di degustazione
The 2017 Le Cap Maritime Chardonnay gives up aromas of oak, lemon curd and pineapple skin on the nose. Medium to full-bodied in the mouth, the wine reveals a citrus tension with white flower blossoms across the mid-palate as flavors of pan-seared almonds build toward the back of the expression. It ends with a texturally pleasing long finish. It's a well-made Chardonnay.

Debut vintage of a new project from Marc Kent of Boekenhoutskloof made on the home farm in Franschhoek by Gottfried Mocke, fruit leased from neighbours of this farm next to Newton Johnson. The 2017 vintage in this cool corner of the Cape was relatively warm. Whole-bunch pressed and juice settled over two days before being racked into 60% new French oak and 40% Nomblot concrete eggs. Spontaneous fermentation and 'occasional light' lees stirring. TA 5.2 g/l. pH 3.42, RS 2.2 g/l. 400 cases. Direct, intense aromatic appeal. Notably elegant, well-balanced fruit. Minty nose and rich citrus on the palate but all the while delicate and vibrant. Very much its own style – which is far from austere but there is nothing remotely fat or sweet. (JR)
