Butter, cream, toast, apricot – plenty of flavour here, with relatively full body and thick texture thanks in part to modest acidity. Fairly short, but delivers great typicality. (RH)

The 2020 Saint Joseph Vieilles Vignes has a terrific, granite-like minerality as well as pure blue fruits, medium to full body, ripe tannins, and complex notes of violets, sappy green herbs, and cracked peppercorns. It shows the riper style of the vintage in its texture and density, yet it has an almost cool climate-like vibe in its aromatics. It's another beautiful wine from this terrific estate.
>100-year-old Serine and 60-year-old Syrah vines from St-Jean-de-Muzols, Les Oliviers sur Mauves, Paradis sur Mauves, Chanson sur Chavannay and St-Joseph-sur-Mauves. 50% whole bunch. Aged for 12 months in new and one-year-old barrels, then eight months in foudre. To be released early summer 2022. Cask sample. Deep crimson. Lifted, saline sort of Syrah that almost recalls Côte Rôtie on the nose although there is quite a bit of density on the palate. Much more refined than the Crozes 2020. Could be a GV alternative to Côte Rôtie? Fresh and savoury. (JR)
