Bruised apple skin and lime zest signal on the nose an invigorating piquancy and tang that is confirmed on the relatively full, glossy palate. The finish is juicy and tart-edged, with a pinch of salt serving for welcome salivary stimulation. This relies on sources very similar to those that informed its less-convincing, legally dry counterpart. (The label here no longer indicates feinherb , but that is how the estate still refers to this bottling.)

The 2018 Riesling shows the clear, elegant, fresh and flinty bouquet of ripe yellow plums and peaches along with some beautiful phenolic notes. On the palate, this is an elegant, fine and perfectly round and balanced but also fresh and gorgeously juicy Riesling with a salty-piquant finish and the crystalline crunchiness of Brauneberg's slate soils. Tasted in March 2019.
Lots of fruit and fullness. This might be the right choice for the UK market. Great balance and some terroir character. Lots to chew on but a wine made to be seen as dry rather than vapid. (JR)
