Note di degustazione
A blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 10% Mourvèdre from 45-year-old vines, the 2009 Gigondas Cuvée de la Tour Sarrasine offers up a knockout, slightly exotic array of black cherry liqueur, aged beef, pepper, edgy minerality, and loads of wild herbs on the nose. Rich, medium to full-bodied, and structured, with a pure, seamless texture, outstanding richness, and quality, yet slightly dry tannin, this very well-done Gigondas will gain additional nuance with another handful of years in the cellar, and should age gracefully for 10-12 years.

(75% grenache, 15% syrah and 10% mourvedre): Glass-staining ruby. Intensely perfumed but a bit reduced, offering blackberry and violet scents and an exotic suggestion of apricot. Plush and broad in the mouth, with dark fruit flavors lifted by a touch. Closes sweet and long, the apricot note repeating. This wine was not yet bottled when I tasted it in mid-November.
Mid crimson. Lots of gas and lift and spiciness. Drier than many but with real interest and refreshment value. Slightly drying on the end but lots to savour here. Not a fullblown, full-on Gigondas – perhaps from higher vineyards? Fades a little on the end. (JR)
