Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2021-2040, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jun 2021

The 2019 Pinot Blanc Wehlener Klosterberg *** is deep, pure, fresh and intense on the initially lemony nose that changes completely with air. After a long while in the open bottle, the 2019 shows a bright and fresh yet intense and rich bouquet of ripe white fruits and very elegant stony notes that could easily be confused for chalk, although this is certainly based on pure slate. Full-bodied, silky, minerally fresh and elegant on the palate, with tropical fruit aromas (pineapples), this is a rich and mouth-filling yet crystalline and detailed Pinot Blanc with very fine tannins and highly stimulating mineral grip and tension on the finish that reveals lemon chutney notes along with a sustainable salinity and lovely grapefruit bitters. This is an impressive, profound, seriously structured and salivating Pinot Blanc that sets a benchmark for wines of this grape variety not only in Germany but also for Alto Adige, Alsace and Austria, to name just a few prominent competitors. Highly recommended! Tasted from AP 118 21 in May 2021.
