The 2017 Tiers Vineyard Chardonnay is loaded with salted/smoked nuts and green almonds, Golden Delicious apples, yuzu curd and toasted lime. In the mouth, the creamy custard notes are pronounced, and while this is undoubtedly complex and nuanced, it is also possessed of green inflections that threaten to sour, or tang. This will be quite a titillating situation for some. The oak is still a key player here, and that is interesting as well. Surely it doesn't need more time to come together? But perhaps it does. 13% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.

2017 started with a very cool spring. 1,303 °C days of heat. Their latest vintage ever, harvested 13 April. 4,200 bottles. The least distinctive somehow. Very well balanced and embryonic. But it’s so well-mannered it almost shrinks into the background. Very sleek and beautifully balanced. (JR)
A rich and powerful edition of this single-parcel bottling, offering ripe-peach and spicy, praline-like aromas with a citrus edge. The palate has weight and power, impressive depth and textural layering. Long, lemon and peach finish. Drink now. Screw cap.
Pale gold. Toasty oak and struck match, overripe, focused lemon-rind fruit. More struck match on the palate, with lemon and lean white peach. Toasty, nutty, long finish. Just a bit struck matchy and lean for now. (TJ)
