The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a well-defined nose of red brambly fruit, leather and wilted violets. There's a hint of reduction, though nothing to get concerned about, but there is a suggestion of Brettanomyces. The palate is medium-bodied with layers of ripe black fruit, white pepper and a hint of iodine. Its pepperiness becomes quite accentuated on the finish, grippy with a long aftertaste. A little heat becomes evident with time in the glass. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.

The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Saint-Georges 1er Cru contains 40% whole cluster fruit. There is an underlying marine element on the nose, a touch of shucked oyster shells behind the veneer of red and black fruit. Lovely focus. The palate is medium-bodied with fine but firm tannins, dark berry fruit laced with white pepper and a very subtle ash notes, merging into a finely structured and persistent finish. Quintessentially Les Saint-Georges - superb.
