Note di degustazione
The 600-case 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Barbe Rac (100% Grenache) is one of the wines of the vintage and offers shocking levels of concentration and mid-palate depth to go with classic notes of black currants, dried earth, leather and graphite. It lacks the concentration and depth of the 2015, but is one serious 2014 that has ample tannin and over a decade of longevity.

(raised entirely in concrete vats): Brilliant ruby. Aromas of fresh dark berries, spicecake, licorice and potpourri gain vivacity from a mineral element. Stains the palate with energetic blackberry and bitter cherry flavors that become deeper and sweeter with air. Rich yet quite lithe, showing no excess fat. The floral and spice qualities come back strong on the gently tannic, penetrating finish, which hangs on with outstanding tenacity.
Cask sample. Fresher, sweeter and more beguiling than the Croix de Bois but not a charmer. This seems lower in alcohol than many of its peers. Still youthful and relatively, almost unsettlingly, cool. (JR)
