Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2017-2027, Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Nov 2016

Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting in Beaune, the 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle has less fruit on the nose than the premier cru from J L Trapet tasted alongside. There seems to be a little stem addition underneath, with red cherries and cranberry leaf aromas, perhaps lean in style but still fresh and correct. The oak is not quite as well subsumed as others but maybe it just needs time. The palate is well balanced with fine tannin, red plum and cranberry notes to the fore with a soft landing on the easy going finish. This is a consumer-friendly Gevrey, one that is well-crafted. Tasted September 2016.

Palish medium red. Aromatic, open-knit nose offers notes of cherry, rose petal and cinnamon. Tightly wound but not hard, with juicy, perfumed dark raspberry and floral flavors intensified by firm acidity and underlying minerality. Juicy, refreshing wine with riper tannins and more length than the Clos Prieur. I may be underrating this.

The 2013 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Petite Chapelle did not undergo any pigeage (as usual) because of the heavy clay soil. It has a tightly wound bouquet with raspberry and wild hedgerow scents, a little more withdrawn compared to the Clos Prieur at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit, harmonious in the mouth, with very good persistence on the finish. Plenty of freshness to savor here with a tang of white pepper on the aftertaste.
