Note di degustazione
The 1981 Rouge opens with fragrant cassis, tobacco, earth and leather. Melted licorice adds a spicy nuance. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, the 1981 is elegant to the core and a testament to the longevity of these wines. That said, it’s best enjoyed sooner rather than later.

80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.3% Merlot, 5.6% Tannat, 3.2% Malbec, 3.9% Syrah, 1% rare varieties. TA 3.40 g/l (sulphuric) , pH 3.48. Surprisingly vibrant after the comparatively sedate 1982 and 1983. This still has fruit freshness and good balance. Even so, the tannins are starting to dominate a bit unduly, and this may be past its sweetest spot. Savoury, dense. (RH)
Blackish mid colour. Corked, but with overlays of some good ripe fruit. The mellow, ready tannins are almost covered by fruit. I would like to taste a good bottle of this wine. (JR)
