The 2021 Côte Rôtie Lancement is a touch more straightforward, yet it's gorgeously texture and balanced. Spicy red fruits, dried flowers, cured meats, and incense notes all define the bouquet, and it hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, fine, polished tannins, and gorgeous overall balance. Give it a year to develop a touch more complexity, and it will absolutely shine on the dinner table over the following decade. This is another brilliant lineup from brothers Kevin and Fabien Garon, whose estate is in the southern end of the appellation, although they do have vines in the Les Rochins lieu-dit, located just above Landonne. The wines are mostly destemmed and raised primarily in used barrels, and they are utterly classic, perfumed, elegant wines that drink well with just a few years of bottle age. Despite 2021 being a challenging vintage, they’ve produced some impressive wines.

The elegant 2021 Côte-Rôtie Lancement shines brightly in this challenging vintage. Wafts of orange blossom, quince, raspberry and cedar race out of the glass. On the palate, moderate flavor concentration is perfectly balanced by bright acidity and wrapped in gentle tannins. This is a well-made and refined Côte-Rôtie that shows good energy on the sapid finish.
Tasted blind. Reductive notes on the nose, with leather, violet and bacon fat. The palate is medium weight with fine, chewy tannins and a cedary note on the finish. (AC)
