The 2022 Connect The Dots is pure Syrah of various ages, around the mid-twenties, raised in neutral oak (mainly 300 litres). This has a fragrant nose with brambly red fruit, cranberry and blackberry, touches of wild heather and a touch of garrigue. Lovely delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with graphite-tinged black fruit, quite grainy in texture and noticeably peppery on the finish. This is more long-term than the '23.

Fruit from three subregions, the coolest mesoclimates. Each parcel is fermented separately. Smells of roses and crushed flowers and garden path after the rain. Old stone walls and wild strawberries. 100% Syrah. Grapes come from Cape Agulhas (for the first time), Elgin, Stellenbosch. The label visually 'connects the dots' of the three terroirs. Lean and fragrant, very slightly meaty in a light-touch way, rooibos tea, fynbos, biltong, nectarine skin. A slightly crazy collision of flavours but it works. And then, in the mouth, held, the spices begin to build. Fine spice. The tannins hum with spice. It tastes like rain and it tastes like red apples and it tastes a little like a lick of rust and its savoury with driftwood tannins. Ultra-elegant.
