Moving up in price as well as quality are the firm’s regional expressions of Shiraz, all of which can be unhesitatingly recommended. From Heathcote, the 2004 Shiraz Max’s Garden is Two Hands’ most restrained, European-styled Shiraz. Bright ruby. Pungently smoky, mineral-laden aromas of cherry, red plum, graphite and licorice. Broad-shouldered, solid shiraz with good sweetness and a solid core of acidity. A strong cherry tone is accented by licorice root and an impression of iron. Awfully young right now, and youthfully clenched on the finish, but there's clearly excellent material here.
