The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges Clos des Fôrets-Saint-Georges 1er Cru contains a little more amplitude than the 2016, fine mineralité and discrete floral scents, pressed rose petal especially. Good energy and precision. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fleshy on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, very pure and poised with a discrete black pepper edge mixed with seaweed towards the finish. This is an excellent wine that may improve further with bottle age. Tasted at the Domaine de L’Arlot tasting at La Cabotte in London.

The 2017 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Fôret-Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a transparent bouquet of red cherries, kirsch and rose petals, perhaps just missing a little complexity. The palate has plenty of depth and grip, offering dark berry fruit, cola, white pepper and a touch of garrigue toward the finish. A little heavy-handed, perhaps, but there is still sufficient freshness on the finish. This should improve with time in bottle. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.
Mid ruby. High toned. Sweet and round. A real charmer with a little salinity. Fine boned. This seems more typical of 2017 than the Clos de l’Arlot and Suchots 2017s. Polished and much less muscular than, say, the 2015. (JR)
