The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py, bottled at the end of July '22, comes from 6 hectares of vines. It has a fine, mineral-rich bouquet, more red than black fruit, a background flinty scent developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with crunchy dark berry fruit, quite firm and strict at the moment with fine grip on the finish. A more terse Côte du Py than other vintages, but it will repay 2-3 years cellaring.

Transparent mid crimson. Edgy fruit on the nose and then suave, gentle fruit on the palate. I’m pretty sure this will have a long life but it’s already approachable! Perhaps hiding its charms for the moment as it’s not as readily enjoyable as the Charmes. (JR)
The 2021 Morgon Côte du Py is excellent, offering up aromas of cherries, plums and berries mingled with notions of peony, burning embers and sweet spices. Medium to full-bodied, ample and fleshy, it's seamless and succulent, with melting tannins, lively acids and a long, precise finish. After the richer, more powerful 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 vintages, the 2021 marks a return to a more classically proportioned style, even if Burgaud did a great job of avoiding excess and maximizing the potential of those riper vintages.
