Punteggio 17/20 · Da bere 2012-2022, Jancis Robinson MW, Jun 2005

Mid ruby again. Some very strong metallic notes on the nose. There was originally lots of ripe fruit on the palate, it seems, but the whole is now a bit tough and austere and I can’t really see it coming round to a beautiful whole. (JR)

Punteggio 88/100 · Da bere 2006-2015, Robert Parker, Apr 2002

While disappointing prior to bottling, the 1999 Hermitage Le Meal is close to outstanding. Although closed, with coaxing it displays a saturated ruby color as well as a striking perfume of creme de cassis intermixed with minerals. The wine possesses excellent concentration and moderately high tannin. It is significantly better than my notes last year suggested. However, patience will be essential. Anticipated maturity: 2006-2015. Importer: William Grant & Sons, Edison, NJ; tel. (732) 225-9000

Red-ruby. Subdued aromas of red fruits, licorice and minerals. Tighter and less showy than the young 2000, but also tougher on the back end and a bit dry. Again, the 2000 appears to possess stronger material and better balance. These wines, from the Ferraton family holdings, are vinified by Samuel Ferraton in conjunction with the Chapoutier team. The Ferratons also have an arrangement with the Chapoutiers whereby the Ferraton label is used for a line of negociant wines marketed by Chapoutier.
