Full bottle 1,651 g. Medium lemon in colour with a gold hue. Slight oyster shell and char but not much to the nose. Somehow weighty but without much fruit on the palate – salty and briny with a touch of honey and mouth-watering acidity. Refreshing. (SCJ)

The 2021 Les Bournais is unsurprisingly tighter than in previous vintages due to the cooler season compared with 2018, 2019 and 2020. It remains fragrant, exuding ripe peach, mango, and mandarin segments. What's most evident about this wine is its huge linearity: there's a tight corset around this wine, ensuring it pierces your palate like a well-made paper airplane. A delightful chalky texture backs it up, leaving you licking your lips on the scented finish.
Parcel with clay-limestone soils. Vines planted in 1998. Certified organic and biodynamic (Biodyvin). Citrus-mandarin aroma and flavour. Round and ripe but bright and fresh as well, the marked acidity bringing poise and balance. Almost crystalline in form, the finish long with a tiny saline edge. Delicious now but likely to get better. (JL)
