Punteggio 92/100 · Da bere 2014-2025, Joe Czerwinski, Wine Advocate, Jun 2025

Sourced from mountain vineyards, like Stagecoach, Edcora and others, Chappellet's 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Signature comes across as slightly overdone, with leathery fruit, dried black cherries and smoky-meaty nuances on the nose. It's full-bodied, creamy and ripe, with a supple but abbreviated finish. Drink up.

The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon is deep garnet in color and comes prancing out of the glass with cheery notions of baked black cherries, black raspberries, blackcurrant cordial and chocolate box plus wafts of dried mint, wilted roses, Ceylon tea and fallen leaves. The full-bodied palate is wonderfully expressive and balanced, chock-full of perfumed black fruit and a velvety texture, finishing long and lively. This is drinking wonderfully now!

Saturated medium ruby. Brooding aromas of blackberry, licorice and violet lifted by a fresh mineral quality. Then surprisingly pliant, even creamy, following the nose, conveying an almost chocolatey ripeness to its black fruit and mineral flavors. This impressively mouthfilling wine shows a captivating subtle sweetness that may be giving it a deceptive accessibility today. The very long, ripely tannic finish boasts considerable power and repeating minerality, promising continued development in bottle over the next 15 years.
