Note di degustazione
(60% grenache and 40% syrah; made from vines in Plan de Dieu, Cairanne, Rasteau and Vacqueyras; aged in one- and two-year-old casks): Vivid purple. Pungent blueberry and plum scents are enlivened by white pepper and smoky minerality. Juicy and intense, offering energetic black and blue fruit flavors and good stony cut. Finishes with an echo of blueberry, velvety tannins and very good mineral-tinged persistence. The 2011 version of this wine has put on weight over the last year and shows a broader-shouldered character than I would have expected from a "little" wine in that vintage.

Fermented and aged in barrel and comprised of mostly Marsanne, the 2012 Cotes du Rhone Guy Louis Blanc is a beautifully rich, textured white that offers up ample apricot jam, golden fruits, brioche and vanilla creme on the nose. Medium-bodied, with a rich, full texture (no doubt from lots of lees contact), it is a classy effort to drink over the coming 3-4 years. Proprietor Michel Tardieu fashions a bevy of smoking southern Rhones, most of which end up being great values. Importer: Wilson-Daniels, St. Helena, CA; tel. (707) 963-9661
Very dark purple. Juicy, purple fruited, sweet. Seems a tad more 'stewed' than the Becs Fins. Perhaps a longer term prospect. There is certainly lots lurking in there. (JR)
