The 2022 Riesling Brauneberger Juffer-Sonnenuhr GG comes mainly from the estate's oldest vines, which according to Oliver Haag are "100 and more years old," with an average age of 70-80 years. The 2022 vintage expresses itself in the Grosses Gewächs with a lot of substance, power and phenols, yet the typical finesse of the JSU is also present. It has a clear, flinty, delicately reductive, very elegant and almost cool slate nose of ripe stone fruit such as peach, plus phenolic notes and nuances of mocha. Elegant and delicate on the palate, this is a dense and complex, remarkably salty and long-lasting Riesling from one of the most prestigious Mosel sites. Bottled in August 2023 with 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted with Oliver Haag in Wiesbaden in late August 2024, one year after my first review two or three weeks after the bottling.

At once deep and charming this remarkable Mosel GG marries honeysuckle, vanilla bean and fresh herbal aromas with impressive structure and racy acidity on the extremely focused, sleek palate. What an exciting brilliance this has at the long laser beam straight finish. Drink or hold.
