Brilliant ruby. Candied red berries, cherry liqueur and hints of musky earth and potpourri on the highly perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Palate-staining raspberry and bitter cherry flavors show excellent clarity, silky texture and a hint of spicecake that builds steadily as the wine opens up. The energetic, sharply focused, impressively long finish repeats the floral and red fruit notes, and supple tannins lend shape and gentle grip.

Still not yet bottled, the 2014 Gigondas is a classic wine from this estate that offers medium-bodied richness, a supple, silky texture and the textbook, exotic bouquet of basil, green herbs, blackcurrants and blackberries. The blend is the normal 70% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 14% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre, and it’s aged in a combination of old foudre and concrete tanks. This beauty will drink nicely through 2024.
Brilliant ruby. Heady, mineral-tinged cherry and red berry preserve scents are complicated by suggestions of candied flowers and woodsmoke. Juicy and expansive, offering appealingly sweet raspberry and lavender pastille flavors that put on weight and spread out with aeration. An exotic pit fruit nuance emerges on the impressively persistent finish, which features smooth, even tannins and repeating florality.
70% Grenache, 15% Cinsault, 14% Syrah and 1% Mourvèdre. Tasted blind. Cask sample. Bright crimson. Smells of boiled fruit. Some gaminess. Very drying. Sandpaper. Not enough freshness. (JR)
