Punteggio 95/100 · Da bere 2024-2040, Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, Jan 2020

From red quartzite soils, the intensely yellow 2017 Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg GG Ehrenfels opens with generous and super ripe mirabelle, brioche, vanilla and tropical fruit on the nose intermixed with fine crushed slate and iron notes. Full-bodied, lush and fine, with great vitality and a very long, complex and tensioned finish, this is a lean but powerful and intense, sustainable and structured dry Riesling. An impressive wine but possibly harvested a bit too ripe? Bottled in May, tasted in August 2019.

A very honeyed nose for a GG with dried apricots, spices, banoffee pie and dried mango. The palate is phenolic and weighty, the acidity on the moderate side and the stone and tropical fruit out in full force. Dry and robust, this is a big, powerful riesling. Drink now or hold.

Punteggio 93-94/100 · Da bere 2019-2032, David Schildknecht, Vinous, Aug 2019

Zesty lime and wet stone are joined in the nose by haunting chamomile and iris such as I would have thought more likely to emerge from Roseneck. The nutty, pithy piquancy and stoniness on exhibit here surpasses even that displayed on the palate by its vintage 2016 predecessor. But at the same time, there is a gorgeous concentration of pure, juicy apple, lime and white peach fruit as well as a billowing persistence of musky floral perfume. The stone-lined and analytically-speaking radically-dry finish avoids any sense of austerity thanks to its mouth-shaking sense of energy, its persistently bright juiciness, and its mouthwatering salinity. There is only a single Stückfass, this steep and stony sector having been especially sensitive to the mid-summer drought.
