Punteggio 16.5/20 · Da bere 2024-2028, Jancis Robinson MW, Dec 2023

Full screwcapped bottle all of 1,615 g – bottled before Jackson Family Wine's attempts to reduce their bottled weights. Aged for 'months' on skins in ceramic egg by Peter Fraser. Real energy here on the truly varietal nose of spring blossom and something herbal. Very marked acidity – even more so than the 2017 tasted before. This one should last very well. Much sprightlier than Beaucastel's version, for instance. In fact I would wait awhile before drinking it. Quite an extreme wine! (JR)

Modern winemaking is at play here in the single vineyard 2020 Roux Beaute, which is all fermented and aged in ceramic eggs, partially on skins. This has created an exotic and textural wonder with honeysuckle, creamed cashews, apricot and gentle floral aromas. The 2020 builds in the mouth with a more savory profile and significant grip to drive a lengthy finish. Expressive now and promises plenty over the coming years.

A lovely nose of lemon curd, chamomile and crushed thyme. Medium-bodied with silky texture. Bright acidity and fresh citrus fruit wash over the palate. Taut and crisp. Refreshing tannins at the finish. Tropical fruit such as pineapple. From organically grown grapes. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now. Screw cap.

As an Australian, it is hard to read “Roux Beaute” and not think “you beaut.” Thankfully, the internal rhyming suggestion is apt. The 2020 Roux Beaute Roussanne is concentrated and broad, with layers of phenolics in the mouth—bitter almond, green apple skin, white flowers, caper berries, cheesecloth, brine and feijoa, even custard apple, perhaps. It's good. It's really good. It shows that textural breadth and depth can still be lively and bright. This is an exciting wine and very well handled. You beaut.
