This was an absolute star of the show chez Fourrier this year. Fourrier’s plot is less than a hectare (0.89), but sits right next door to Rousseau’s. The vines are over 100 years old and run the full length of the vineyard, from the top’s white marl to the bottom’s heavier clay. Bright, pure red fruit leads the way, with the rich scent of rose and slightest touch of clove spice emerging with air. On the palate, this offers incredible transparency – a taut, mineral wine that is full of crushed chalk and juicy raspberry fruit. A gorgeous, pretty, delicate wine that nevertheless has power, dancing on the tongue.

Here there is just enough wood present to mention along with a suggestion of menthol on the elegant, airy and cool nose of ripe wild dark currant, plum and a plethora of floral nuances. The rich, full-bodied and palate soaking flavors also flash plenty of minerality on the tension-filled, youthfully austere and impressively persistent finale. This is terrific and should age accordingly. Sweet spot Outstanding. Drink 2032+
Aromas of plums, sweet red berries, peonies, orange zest and creamy spices preface Fourrier's 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques, a medium to full-bodied, supple and velvety wine with an unctuous core of fruit, lively acids and melting tannins. This will offer an especially broad drinking window.
The somewhat modest colour of the Clos Saint-Jacques belies the aromatic intensity of this wine with its beguiling black cherry fruit aromas touched with smoke, leather, earth, and spice. The texture is firmly tannic and full-bodied, with intense concentration and length – 'this has everything' in my notes. The domaine's 0.89-hectare parcel sits next to Rousseau; it was originally planted in 1910. The grapes are destemmed, but the best and ripest stems are added back to the vats. Ideally, one would wait at least five years before enjoying this wine and then drink it over the next 30 years.

Domaine Fourrier is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate has been run by Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994, and has rapidly become one of the village’s most fashionable names, known for producing pure and transparent Pinot Noir.
