As with Fourrier’s Latricières-Chambertin, this old-vine plot (a stately 70 years) is up against the Route des Grands Crus. The nose is instantly intoxicating with a violet perfume and depth of dark fruit that soars from the glass. The palate is concentrated, laden with sweet fruit, yet driven with remarkable finesse and freshness. Persistent and pure, with a weightless quality, this is another great wine from Jean-Marie.

A royal crimson purple. Not so much bouquet first up. Then a powerful concentration of dark red fruit fills the palate, seems more structured up front but then expands in volume further back. High toned acidity at first before the fruit swamps the structure. Still some tannins behind confirm the long term nature of this wine. The finish is particularly stylish.

Domaine Fourrier is located in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The estate has been run by Jean-Marie Fourrier since 1994, and has rapidly become one of the village’s most fashionable names, known for producing pure and transparent Pinot Noir.
