Bright, dark red. Slightly high-toned aromas of dark cherry, menthol, earth, leather and minerals; I might have guessed Nuits-Saint-Georges. Surprisingly supple and sweet in the mouth, offering considerable early appeal. Not especially complex but nicely full and satisfying. Finishes with substantial dusty tannins and lingering suggestions of leather and saline minerality. This wine was vinified with 40% whole clusters.

(40% vendange entier ; 20% new oak; these mostly north-facing vines were picked last): Bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of blackberry, flowers and pepper. A tight, low-fat village wine with very good verve and spine, if not quite the depth for outstanding. Kept under wraps today by an herbal element from the stems.
A more deeply pitched nose displays a well-layered mix of both red and black pinot fruit along with notes of spice, violets and sandalwood. Here too the middle weight flavors possess a highly seductive texture thanks to the velvety mouth feel that continues onto the serious, firm and lingering finish. This will need a few years first.
