Very attractive aromas of blue fruit, as well as red cherries and redcurrants with cedary, savory nuances, stones, flowers and woody spices. This is both pristine and full of interest. The palate has elegant style with a fine brand of elegant, long tannin and fresh red-berry flavors. Up there with the finest releases, this is beautifully balanced and very drinkable already, though cellaring will bring further rewards. Best after 2030. Screw cap.

Tasted here today, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is in among wines dating back to the 1970s, and owner Keith Mugford has described the 2017 vintage as being aligned with the 1990 one. I might have compared it to the wet and cold 2006 vintage, although it was likely not as cold or wet as that. In the glass, the wine is fine-boned and elegant, with bramble, dried herbs, tobacco, coffee grounds, bitter cocoa, nori, tapenade and brine. The length of flavor extends out through the finish and shows the power and prowess of the vineyard and vines from whence the fruit came. This is another wine that has exceeded initial expectations, which is in line with the legacy of behavior of Moss Wood Cabernets in bottle.
