FINE+RARE, Sep 2023

This mixed case contains three remarkable vintages for the small but mighty Pomerol estate. The 2004 Belle-Brise exhibits a more evolved nose of cedar, tobacco and forest floor. Desiccated and ethereal fruit is followed by fragrant, classic and beautiful, sweet-fruit notes on the palate. There is a core of richness and delicacy, with the Cabernet Franc shining through the Merlot richness. This wine is elegant and delicate in style, and simply charming. For fans of beautifully mature Pomerol, this delivers on every level and stands as one of the greatest 2004s we can remember tasting. (Drink now-2035). The 2006 Belle-Brise in a word: wow. Opulent, rich dark-fruit on the nose, there is pristine balance of fruit and development. On the palate, the polymerised tannins bring a velvety texture which complements the fruit-forward vintage perfectly. It is wonderfully supple and sweet with hallmark delicacy. There is real controlled power here. Complex and bright. Delightful textbook Pomerol with power and sophistication. In a flight of 23 vintages, this was the wine of the night. It delivers and overperforms on every possible level. Outstanding. (Drink now-2040). Despite a slightly tricky vintage, the 2011 Belle-Brise is still a hallmark Pomerol with inviting aromas and flavours of ripe plum and delicate sweet spice. It is not as powerful as warmer and more heralded vintages, but it still displays ample fruit, smooth tannins and a delightful, rounded texture. It is bright and fresh - extremely satisfying and showing partially well now, for the year. (Drink now-2035)

Château Belle-Brise - producer
Belle Brise

Tucked away in Pomerol’s southwest corner Ch. Belle-Brise is the ultimate insider’s Bordeaux. With just two hectares of walled garden vineyard, production at this estate is minuscule, making it one of the rarest wines in the marketplace (and arguably more exclusive than either Pétrus or Le Pin).
